Grading Questions and Answers

The following Q&A refers to all of my classes, except for the section that says “AP Comp Sci ONLY”, which ONLY applies to AP Computer Science Period 05 & Period 06.

Q:  What is my grade?
A:  Teachers must turn in grades by Tuesday, June 20th at 12:00pm.  So you will definitely know your grade by then.  Realistically, I hope to finish and post grades by Friday.  Beyond that, you should already have a good idea where you stand, since most of the important stuff has already been graded.

Q:  Can I turn in late work during this week?
A:  No.  It has been made very clear over the past three weeks that all work for credit was due on Friday, June 9th by 5:00pm.  Setting a clear deadline allows me to grade remaining assignments, and turn in grades in a timely manner (hopefully by Friday).  Also, we used this exact same deadline process first semester, so you should already be familiar with it.

Q:  Can I take home the assignments I have done in class?
A:  Of course you can.  For Mobile App class, I would suggest emailing your AIA files home in a .ZIP file.  For Animation Projects, please bring me a blank CDROM and I will create a ZIP file which contains your entire website, with all animations and your homepage.  It will open in any browser.  For AP Comp Sci, email a .ZIP file with all of your code home.  Flash drives are not allowed in lab computers due to virus concerns.

Q:  I missed a grade by a few points, will you round it up?
A:  No, please see the course info packet you signed in September regarding this topic.  We also discussed this at the end of First Semester, and the same rules apply now.

====================AP COMP SCI ONLY=====================

Q:  I missed a grade by a few points in AP Comp Sci, will you round it up?
A:  No.  Please check the course info packet you signed in September regarding this topic.  Beyond that I scaled all 5 quizzes this semester, I scaled the final exam, I provided an extra credit assignment, I scaled the code interviews, and I provided extra credit on the Finch robot lab during the last week of class.  All of this was designed to assist students on the border between two grades.  Sorry, no more assistance will be provided beyond the things mentioned here.  Period.

Q:  When will I get back my Code Interview sheet from AP Comp Sci?
A:  Like a quiz, I do not want the content of the code interview sheet to get out, so you will not get them back.  You may definitely visit your sheet upon request once it has been recorded, but this sheet must not leave the classroom or be reproduced, or you will receive a zero on the code interview grade.  I might pass them back in class for a few minutes and re-collect them, if time permits.

Sincerely,
Mr. Eliot
