  • English Cheese Pie – cheese was important to the English
  • Venison – five deer were brought by the Native Americans
  • Wild Turkey – Native Americans and English alike enjoyed this meal
  • Garlic and Onions – staples of the diet
  • Pumpkin Pudding – there wasn’t pumpkin pie at the time
  • Indian Pudding – can be served as a warm or cold dessert

Sub Today: Sick Daughter (again)

It feels like only a month ago that my daughter was sick (actually it was less than a month ago). Last night, when we got home, she had a 103.6 temperature again. So I am on “watch the sick daughter duty” again today. Check below for info on your class. I will be back tomorrow (Thursday).

WEB DESIGN:

When I get back, we’ll have to do the path tool and other demos. When you have finished Assignment 6 part 01, continue on to Assignment 06 Part 02 (as best you can). To do part 02 well, you need two things. First you need the GRID enabled (View –> Show Grid, View –> Snap To Grid). Once you have the grid, it will make it easier to make exact shapes with sides placed where you want (Squares, Triangles, etc.). To create shapes, you will need to use the path tool. Two tutorials found HERE and HERE will help you get started. Do the best you can until I get back tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

AP JAVA:

Finish up recursion today. Tomorrow, we start with Lesson 10 (String Functions). Any of you that are willing can always start early (this assignment has 3 parts) and/or read the section of Assignment 10 about Object Reference variables. We will do a PowerPoint tomorrow that is pretty long, so please be ready for it.

ADVANCED WEB:

Please continue with Assignment 08. Don’t forget to try my version if you have any questions on how it works. If you need to look up how any functions work, use the official PHP site. Notice the function lookup at the top right of the main page.

VISUAL BASIC:

Continue on with the Mad Lib program. Many of you will get it working in the next day or two. I will be back to help on Thursday.

Visual Basic Express

Visual Basic Express

Microsoft has released a free version of Visual Basic called “Visual Basic Express”. It is based on Visual Basic 2005. While I suggest keeping your install of Visual Basic 6 for class, some of you might want to play with this version, if interested. It can be downloaded HERE.ร‚ย  I wish our school computers supported it ๐Ÿ™‚

AP Java, ICT Lesson 06

ICT Logo
For this assignment, do the following:

  • Read the JavaDoc discussion found here (login required).
  • Test JavaDocs by creating docs for the PizzaParlor class.
  • Only do Lab Assignment 6.2 (RegularPolygon)
  • Create JavaDocs for your RegularPolygon class. This will require you to comment the class extensively.

Turn in RegularPolygon class with tester and sample runs. Turn in both JavaDocs folders you created. All of this should be put in a .ZIP file and uploaded.

NOTE:ร‚ย  There was a bug in the installer that I gave you to use at home.ร‚ย  The JavaDoc path was wrong.ร‚ย  To use JavaDocs at home, you will need to edit your PATH Environment Variable.ร‚ย  This is found at Start –> Settings –> Control Panel –> System –> Advanced –> Environment Variables.ร‚ย  Edit the path to include:

C:\Javastuff\jdk1.5.0_08\bin;

and remove the reference to jdk1.4.2 (or whatever) in the path.

Sick Kid

My daughter is sick, and most likely, I will be home watching her tomorrow (Wednesday, 10-17-2006). Please look for a post here with information on what you should be doing while I am gone. If you have any questions… today would be the day to ask them ๐Ÿ™‚

Need Help? Missing A Quiz?

Mr. Eliot’s lab (Room 506) is open at lunch on MONDAY and THURSDAY each week. There may be occasional days where I can’t make it, but most of the time, if you come by at lunch on these days, I will be here.

If you want to come in after school instead, set up an appointment with me, and I will be there. I am not in my classroom in the mornings, that’s when I work on teacher computers ๐Ÿ™‚

AP Java Installer CDs Now Available

AP Java students only…

Over the weekend, I created installer CDs for each of you. These CDs install Textpad (unregistered shareware) and Java 5 on Windows 2000 or Windows XP Machines. Also, Karel Robot, Marine Biology Case Study, ICT APCS Library, Chn Utilities, Lejos, and ObjectDraw are installed. These are Java libraries that we will use throughout the year.

I make no guarantees regarding this software, use at your own risk. However, I have test installed it on XP and Windows 2000 machines, and it works fine. Also, if any problems result, you can use ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to uninstall it.

See Mr. Eliot for a CDROM…
