I will be at the district office participating in an Illuminate training, and then a Google Certification meeting. I hope you have a great day. When I get back on Wednesday, we will get back to working on assignments.
MOBILE APP: Please continue working on Step Up To Writing. Reminder, it will be due Friday. Also due on Friday, will be 3D Tic Tac Toe, so please use your time well. If you finish Step Up To Writing early, continue on with your assignment! We will discuss the first semester extra credit on Wednesday when I get back.
ANIMATION PROJECTS: Please continue working on Step Up To Writing. Reminder, it will be due Friday. If you finish Step Up To Writing early, continue working on Assignment 07 (Rotoscoping) in Adobe Animate. Remember to LOCK your video layer, and use multiple layers to Rotoscope your scene!
AP COMPUTER SCIENCE: Please continue working on Step Up To Writing. Reminder, it will be due Friday. Also due on Friday, will be ICT Lesson 10, so please use your time well. If you finish Step Up To Writing early, continue on with your Recursion assignment! We will discuss the first semester extra credit on Wednesday when I get back.
Have a great day,
On Friday, September 22nd, I will be in San Diego on family business. On that day, our Guest Teacher will be Mr. Hipwell. Please make him feel at home in our classroom. For all classes, the lab will not be open at lunch or after school today.
MOBILE APP CLASS:
Please continue working on your “tutorial app”. The assignment will be due middle of next week, so you only have a few days left. If you think you are done, you should be adding more text and image content to the sections of your app, and making sure your splash screen is the best it can be. The more text and image content in your tutorial app, the better.
ANIMATION PROJECTS CLASS:
Continue working on your Mouth Movement assignment. This assignment will be due next week. Remember to read the directions of the assignment, and you should have AT LEAST four layers in Adobe Animate (background, sound, people, face). You can have more layers if you want. Please neatly stack the tablets and return the pens as you leave today.
AP COMP SCI CLASSES:
Continue working on ICT Lesson 01 and ICT Lesson 02. You will be uploading both together next week in one .ZIP file. Nobody should be finished yet, since you can definitely make the house better, and add interesting things to improve it and bring it to the next level!
Have a great weekend everyone, and thanks for making Mr. Hipwell feel welcome in our classroom. I will see you on Monday 🙂
Q: What is my grade?
A: Teachers must turn in grades by Tuesday, June 20th at 12:00pm. So you will definitely know your grade by then. Realistically, I hope to finish and post grades by Friday. Beyond that, you should already have a good idea where you stand, since most of the important stuff has already been graded.
Q: Can I turn in late work during this week?
A: No. It has been made very clear over the past three weeks that all work for credit was due on Friday, June 9th by 5:00pm. Setting a clear deadline allows me to grade remaining assignments, and turn in grades in a timely manner (hopefully by Friday). Also, we used this exact same deadline process first semester, so you should already be familiar with it.
Q: Can I take home the assignments I have done in class?
A: Of course you can. For Mobile App class, I would suggest emailing your AIA files home in a .ZIP file. For Animation Projects, please bring me a blank CDROM and I will create a ZIP file which contains your entire website, with all animations and your homepage. It will open in any browser. For AP Comp Sci, email a .ZIP file with all of your code home. Flash drives are not allowed in lab computers due to virus concerns.
Q: I missed a grade by a few points, will you round it up?
A: No, please see the course info packet you signed in September regarding this topic. We also discussed this at the end of First Semester, and the same rules apply now.
====================AP COMP SCI ONLY=====================
Q: I missed a grade by a few points in AP Comp Sci, will you round it up?
A: No. Please check the course info packet you signed in September regarding this topic. Beyond that I scaled all 5 quizzes this semester, I scaled the final exam, I provided an extra credit assignment, I scaled the code interviews, and I provided extra credit on the Finch robot lab during the last week of class. All of this was designed to assist students on the border between two grades. Sorry, no more assistance will be provided beyond the things mentioned here. Period.
Q: When will I get back my Code Interview sheet from AP Comp Sci?
A: Like a quiz, I do not want the content of the code interview sheet to get out, so you will not get them back. You may definitely visit your sheet upon request once it has been recorded, but this sheet must not leave the classroom or be reproduced, or you will receive a zero on the code interview grade. I might pass them back in class for a few minutes and re-collect them, if time permits.
Welcome to the last week to turn in assignments and projects! Just a reminder that ALL work for ANY credit is due by Friday, June 9th at 5:00pm. At that time, all websites will be shut down, and submitting work will be disabled for the remainder of the school year. If you have any work for which you want credit, get it in by Friday, or it will not be counted.
- Upload a ZIP file with all mBot robot code. See sheet 03
- Make sure all three mBot apps are on your phone
- Upload SWF file for your short film project
- Upload FLA file for your short film project
- Please don’t forget a PLAY button
- Double check that your animation plays well on the website in Google Chrome
AP COMPUTER SCIENCE:
- Turn in all FOUR signed Finch Robot sheets to Mr. Eliot
- Upload a .ZIP file containing all finch code, images, sound files, needed for grading
- Complete your Code Interview if you haven’t already done so
- NOTE: due to code interviews, lab availability this week is VERY limited. Come by Mon, Tue, Wed after 3:30pm, or Friday after school if you need extra time.
On Friday, May 12th, I will be traveling to Vancouver Canada to visit some good friends for the day. Mr. Newell will be our guest teacher. Please make Mr. Newell feel at home, and show him the great work you are doing. All students are expected to be in their assigned seat at all times for the entire period.
MOBILE APP CLASS:
Your Blu Advance phones are in the cabinet under the board at the front of the classroom. After Mr. Newell takes roll, please go get your phone. The cords get tangled easily, so please be careful when removing your phone. When the period ends, please wrap the USB cable around the phone and put it back in the same box. Don’t worry about where in the box, I will organize them on Monday morning. A reminder that your Semester Project is due one week from today!
ANIMATION PROJECT CLASS:
Assignment 15 is due today! Remember that you are uploading 8-16 total JPG images of your 3D Amazon.com object, and your 3D House. Also, don’t forget to upload one BLEND file for your 3D Amazon.com object, and one BLEND file for your 3D House. See the assignment directions for more information.
AP COMPUTER SCIENCE:
Your Finch Robots are in the cabinet under the board at the front of the classroom. After Mr. Newell takes roll, please go get your Finch robot. At the end of the period, please put back your Finch robot, inside the cabinet. I will reorganize the robot numbering on Monday, so don’t worry about putting them back in numerical order. If you need to be “checked” you will have to wait until Monday. In the meantime, work on the next behavior as much as you can. The starter code is this file [java_MotorFinchGUI_student.zip] available in the file downloads area!
See you on Monday,
Final grades have been posted, please check Aeries. Thank you for being in my class this semester. You all worked very hard, and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. At this point, I occasionally get emails asking if I will “round up” Semester grades. Please see the class info packet distributed in September, where I discuss this topic. The short answer is “no”, I will not.
Here are the reasons why:
- All five quizzes we have taken this semester were scaled
- An extra credit project was provided this semester
- The Step Up To Writing assignment was scaled
- The Semester Final Exam was scaled
In short, I have already made a number of contributions to assist you in moving to the next grade level. No further “scaling” or “rounding” changes of any kind will be made.
