About Mr. Eliot

My name is Mr. Eliot. I was a teacher at El Dorado High School for 18 years, and now I work at Yorba Linda High School. I teach Computer Programming, Animation, and Mobile App Development and Design.

About Semester Final Grades for AP Classes

A friendly reminder that final semester grades are not adjusted because the student was “close” to the next higher grade. As the course info packet from August 2023 clearly states:

No grade adjustments are made for students who are “close” to a particular grade. So an 89.99% grade is a B+ grade, and will not be “rounded up” to an A- grade. Grades reflect mastery of course content, not the effort expended by the student during the final few weeks of class. Plan ahead, track your grade closely, and work in advance to earn the grade you desire.

Beyond this statement, please remember that I have scaled every quiz this semester, I have scaled the semester final, and I have provided an extra credit project this semester to assist students in reaching the next higher grade. For APCS-P, I have also scaled the Practice Create Task. In short, I have already done my part to assist every student in “moving up” to the next higher grade.

Thank you for all of your hard work in this class…

Sincerely,
Mr. Eliot

Guest Teacher Today, Friday December 15th

Hello students! Today will be my third and hopefully final day of being gone. Thank you for your patience while I’m dealing with some personal business. Please welcome our guest teacher, and please be helpful to each other while I’m gone.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO TODAY…

APCS-Principles, Period 01 and Period 03:
Please continue to work on your APCS-P Practice Create Task. You will not have tablets today, so I would suggest using the App Inventor Emulator since it is the closest to the tablets. If for some reason that doesn’t work, use your personal cell phone. If for some reason that doesn’t work, then you won’t be able to test code today, so work on other areas of your project. Don’t forget to use a document to track ALL of the sources you use.

APCS-A, Period 04:
Please continue to work on ICT Lesson 13. Files you may need for the assignment should be on my website. More discussion of of the last part of the assignment will be on Monday. Please get as far as you can, since the assignment will be due middle of next week.

INTRO MOBILE GAME, Period 05:
You should make your last commit for the 2D Platformer Game and complete your Google Keep entry and complete your custom icon in Adobe Illustrator. This document found HERE (requires login) summarizes everything that is due for this assignment and where it goes. On Monday, we will put your finished icon into the game and put the game on the Android tablets.

Have a great weekend, and I will see you again on Monday –Mr. Eliot

Guest Teacher 10-27-2023

Hellio students! Today will be my second of three days being gone this fall. Thank you for your patience while I’m dealing with some personal business. Please welcome our guest teacher, and please be helpful to each other while I’m gone.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO TODAY…

APCS-Principles, Period 01 and Period 03:
Reminder that the MIT App Inventor app for Unit 4.2/4.3 Lights Off Projects is due today. You should UPLOAD your final AIA file for this project to my website at THIS LINK (must be logged in). To give you a bit of extra time if you want it, you will notice that the due date/time is now Sunday October 29th at 9:00pm. On Monday, we will discuss the grading of Steganography, PaintPot, and the Map app code and go over the comments.

APCS-A, Period 04:
Please continue on with ICT Lesson 8.1 and 8.2. Nothing is due until next week, and we will also have a quiz next Wednesday. More discussion of all this in class on Monday.

INTRO MOBILE GAME, Period 05:
Please continue with Assignment 03, Re-theming the Missile Command game. If you get stuck with anything related to the game, remember, you can continue gathering images and sound files for your new game theme. On Monday, I will help with any issues you may have with the game.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday ? –Mr. Eliot

Guest Teacher Today 9-29-2023

Hello students! Today, as we discussed, I will be gone and you will have a guest teacher. Please be kind and helpful to our guest teacher. Also, be kind and helpful to each other, since I will not be there to answer your questions.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO TODAY…

APCS-Principles, Period 01 and Period 03:
Today, you should be finishing any work you need to complete for UNIT 02 of Mobile CSP. All Unit 02 work is due today by 9:00pm for full credit. A reminder that all documents and work should be in the Unit 02 folder, shared with me, on your Google Drive. If you are done with Unit 02, consider starting Unit 3.1 today if you have time.

APCS-A, Period 04:
Today, you should be finishing ICT Lesson 3.1 (Easter.java and EasterTester.java) which is due today by 9:00pm for full credit. We are NOT doing any other labs in ICT Lesson 3. Don’t forget to paste in AT LEAST three sample runs at the end of the tester! If you are done early with Lesson 3, consider starting Lab 4.1 (Car class) and Lab 4.2 (Rectangle class). We will be doing both of these as part of ICT Lesson 4.

INTRO MOBILE GAME, Period 05:
Today, you have **THREE** things due. (1) make sure you do your final commit for your Lunar Lander game in Unity. (2) in Unity, create the Windows EXE version of your game. Everything that Unity creates for the Windows EXE must be in the ZIP file you create. Turn in the ZIP file on MrEliot.com under the week September 25 – October 1. (3) create a Google Keep entry as mentioned in the assignment directions. All of this is due by 9:00pm today.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on Monday 🙂 –Mr. Eliot

About Second Semester Grades For AP Classes 2023

A reminder that as per the Course Information packet from August 2022, final grades are not adjusted up or down to the next higher grade. As the course info packet states:

No grade adjustments are made for students who are “close” to a particular grade. So an 89.99% grade is a B+ grade, and will not be “rounded up” to an A- grade. Grades reflect mastery of course content, not the effort expended by the student during the final few weeks of class. Plan ahead, track your grade closely, and work in advance to earn the grade you desire.

Beyond this statement, I have scaled every quiz this year, I have scaled the semester final, I have scaled key assignments, and I have provided an extra credit project each semester to assist students in reaching the next higher grade. In short, I have done my part to assist every student in “moving up” to the next higher grade.

Thank you for all of your hard work in this class, and I hope you all have a great summer 🙂
