Mr. Eliot gone periods 1&2 on Tuesday

Hello First and Second period students.  Sorry I am not here today.  I found about this late in the day yesterday.  I am at the District office in a meeting seeking approval for changes to the Mobile App class for next year.  I will be back tomorrow.

FIRST PERIOD:
Please continue to work on your Semester Project.  You will not have your phones today, so use Genymotion to preview your projects as you work.  There are instructions on Courses.MrEliot.com to help you use Genymotion, or ask a student near you.

SECOND PERIOD:
Please continue to work on your Rotoscoping assignment which is due Friday.  Tomorrow (Wednesday), I will discuss removing ununsed frames, removing the video, and adding sound to the assignment.

YLHS E-Sports Team as selected by Coach Drake

Congratulations to the YLHS Fall 2018 Overwatch team.  The following students were selected on Wednesday October 3rd after three hours of tryouts.  Coach Drake had this to say about the selection process:

“It was hard to choose the list, I’m sure all the kids who didn’t make the team would have been perfectly fun to play with and had potential.  That being said, I noticed this group to have the best communication, game-play, adaptability, and potential.  Congratulations to the team and I’m looking forward to next week!”

Guest Teacher Wednesday September 5th (Morning Only)

Hello students!

As I mentioned in class, I will be helping to interview potential Assistant Principals for YLHS this morning.  I should NOT be missing AP Computer Science in the afternoon 5th and 6th periods.  Your Guest Teacher for the morning classes is Mr. Womack. Please make him fell welcome here at YLHS.

For my morning students, please do the following while I’m gone:

(1)  MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT PERIOD 01:  Please finish the Magic 8 Ball assignment while I am gone.  There are some NEW THINGS to add to the assignment directions that can be found in the assignment handout.  You can find that information by logging in to the courses website using your password.  Look for the document in this weeks schedule named “Mobile App Assignment 00“.  When I get back tomorrow we will turn Magic 8 Ball in together and start assignment 02!

(2)  ANIMATION PROJECTS PERIOD 02:  Please finish up the Bouncing Ball Assignment.  Please remember to read the directions from last week.  Please remember to complete all THREE layers that you need.  When I get back tomorrow, we will upload and turn in the Bouncing Ball assignment on the website!

Google Form Assignment: A Bit About You

Please complete the Google Form linked below.  This will be included in your Class Info Packet Signatures grade, so YES, this counts 🙂

There are 10 questions, and this will take probably 5 minutes.  Please do this while I am giving out login stickers to students.  You will need to use your PYLUSD Google Account login to do this.  This is not anonymous!

The form is found here:

Second Semester Grade Information

Q:  When Will Semester Grades Be Available?
A:  Final Grades for all courses will be available on Aeries by Friday, June 15th.  It is possible that grades might be available sooner.

Q:  Can I Turn In Late Work To Fix My Grade?
A:  Until Friday, June 8th at 5:00pm, yes, as long as the assignment is a recent one and shows up on Aeries as a “missing assignment”.  All missing/late work after Friday, June 8th at 5:00pm will be a zero grade, cannot be changed, and will not be taken late.  On Friday June 8th, at 5:00pm, all websites will be disabled so that uploads will not be taken.

Q:  In Mobile App or Animation Projects, I missed a grade by a few points, will you round it up?
A:  No, please see the course info packet you signed in September regarding this topic.  I have nothing further to add.

Q:  In AP Computer Science, I missed a grade by a few points, will you round it up?
A:  No, please see the course info packet you signed in September regarding this topic.  I would like to point out that I scaled all five quizzes that we took this semester, I provided an Extra Credit project this semester, and I scaled the semester Final exam we took last week.  Also, I scaled the Finch Robot assignment to 57 instead of 60.  In short, I have provided a number of opportunities for every AP Comp Sci. student to reach the next higher grade if they are close.

Have a great summer, and good luck Seniors with your future!
Mr. Eliot

Guest Teacher Ms. Watkins Fri, May 11th

Please welcome our Guest Teacher, Ms. Watkins!

PERIOD01, MOBILE APP:
Reminder that you will not have phones today.  If you need your wireframe drawings approved, please wait until MONDAY.  Please do not give your wireframes to the Guest Teacher.  The Guest Teacher will return wireframes to a four of you.  Please help them with this process.

You should be working on your Semester Project today!  Remember to use the “good” Genymotion Emulator instead of your phone; (1) Run the AI Starter Program, (2)  Run MIT App Inventor, (3)  Run Genymotion Android Emulator and press START, (4) In MIT App Inventor, select “Connect –> USB“.  You must use USB for the emulator, not WiFi.

PERIOD 04, ANIMATION PROJECTS:
If you don’t have your storyboard approved yet, hold on to those until MONDAY.  Do not give your storyboards to the Guest Teacher please. The Guest Teacher will return storyboards to most of you.  Please help them with this process since they may not know your names well.

You should be working on your Semester Project today, or perhaps on Assignment 15 today in Blender.  I would not expect anybody to be watching videos, playing games, etc.  You ALL have things to do for this class.  If you need sounds for your project, do that next week please.

PERIOD 05 AND PERIOD 06, AP COMPUTER SCIENCE:
If you are using computers, please be doing something productive and for school.  Ideally, Multiple Choice and FRQ questions for the AP Comp Sci Exam on Tuesday!  Please be respectful of those near you trying to study for AP tests 🙂

If you would like to work on paperwork, etc for another class, then please log off of your computer.  REMINDER:  If you would like more ICT review, please come on Sunday, at 2:30pm.  It will take about 3 hours +/-, and snacks and water will be provided.  Finally, AP Comp Sci students, please take this survey now to help me know how much I need to buy for snacks… (CLICK HERE)

All students, have a great weekend, and I’ll see you on Monday,
Mr. Eliot
